How do I become a member on CommonGenius?

As a CommonGenius member, you can request meetings with our experts, attend our webinars and events, gain access to community features and the blog, and more. It’s completely free, and you can use your email or LinkedIn to sign up.

To get started, click here.

  1. Click ‘Sign up with LinkedIn' or with your email address to sign up. If you are using your email address be sure to double check your email address before submitting. Choose a secure password that at least has 8 characters. Password must contain at least one lowercase character, one uppercase character, one number and one special character.

  2. Tell us your area of interests. You can either search by keywords or choose from the category list. You can add at most 3 areas of interest. Click ‘Get Started’ to save your choices.
  3. You will also receive an email to ask you to verify your account. Please verify your email address at your earliest convenience.
Can I pitch investors on CommonGenius?

CommonGenius has experts from the angel and venture capital communities; however, pitching these individuals is not the mission of the platform. Feel free to ask them for advice on your business and funding strategy, but please do not ask our experts for financial investments.

If a member is reported pitching to experts, they may be banned from the platform.

Can I solicit experts on CommonGenius?

CommonGenius has experts and executives from major businesses. Our community’s goal is to help people from all walks of life overcome their career and business challenges. Solicitation of experts violates the trust necessary to foster relationships and for the community to thrive.

If a member is reported pitching or soliciting business to experts, they may be banned from the platform.

How do text message notifications work?

We will send text messages to the number you provided when signing up. You will be notified of system, messages, and meeting updates.

How do I apply promo codes?

Have a promo code?? Great! Use it before it expires. Simply apply the promo code when you are paying for a meeting on the checkout screen in the promo code box.

How do I change my CommonGenius profile picture?

After login, hover over your avatar on the navigation bar and click ‘Edit my profile’ to go to your member profile page. Beside your photo, you will see "Upload A Photo" to change your profile picture. Use a photo that is high resolution and closeup.

How can a member view their transactions?

You can see all your transaction history on ‘My Balance’ page, which is accessible from the navigation bar. 

Is my contact information kept private?

All calls and messages are made through the CommonGenius platform. Members will not receive your personal contact details, and we encourage you to keep that information private.

Your contact information is only utilized for correspondence and notifications between you and the platform only. We do not give or sell your data to any third party companies (without your express permission).

What if I can’t find the expert that I need?

CommonGenius will soon boast thousands of subject-matter experts right at your fingertips. We are adding dozens of new experts everyday, and our reach is across industries and borders.

How do I prepare for my meeting with an expert?

To make the most of your consultation with an expert, we suggest that you prepare prior to your meeting. Here are a few suggestions:

Clearly Define Your Objectives

What do you want to get out of the meeting? This will help ensure that you touch on all of your most pressing topics with the expert.

Inbox your expert

We recommend that you send your expert a brief introduction of yourself and why you are seeking their help. Send them a summary or bullet points covering some areas you’d like to tackle. This will help the expert prepare for the meeting and maximize your time together.

You can message the expert either through the message box during the booking process or through the inbox system.

Preparing for your call

Prior to hopping on your video conference, ensure that you are in a quiet location with good lighting and strong internet connectivity. Open a separate document or keep a notebook to take notes. Have your questions on hand as well.

Starting your conversation

Beginning your meeting with a bit of small talk helps you and your expert get comfortable and build rapport; however, try not to spend too much time on small talk. We recommend getting to the meat of your conversation within five to ten minutes so you can get the most out of your experience.

How much time should I book with an expert?

We suggest booking a minimum of 45 minutes with an expert, as it will take time for the expert to understand your situation in order to provide you with the best advice. This also enables you to have more time to get to know each other and build a relationship, rather than just engaging in a transaction. As it is our goal that you also develop contacts utilizing CommonGenius,  we suggest that you make the financial investment to allow you and the expert to get to know each other- it will pay off in the quality of the advice you receive and down the road.

Watch your timing

Keep an eye on your meeting clock. You will be notified as you approach the end of the window you have booked. Following a three-minute grace period, you will be charged for additional time at the expert’s same per minute rate. If your meeting happens to run shorter than expected, you will see a refund on your statement, usually within 72 hours.

Future Meetings

Please keep in mind that the expert will likely not be able to cover everything in 1 meeting, especially those under 1 hour. They should suggest to you a follow up meeting or a suggestion for how often you should meet in order to gain the skills or expertise you are looking for. There are no miracles, learning skills and changing behaviors do take time!

Wrapping up your conversation

We fully anticipate that you will have a fantastic experience with your expert. When concluding your meeting, we encourage you to be courteous and thank the expert for their time and attention. If you require a follow-up conversation or future progress report, be sure to mention this to the expert so that they can recommend a good time window.

Following your meeting

After your meeting concludes, you will be prompted to review your experience. This helps other members identify the best CommonGenius experts for them and provides the feedback necessary for our experts to continually improve.

What types of payments does CommonGenius accept?

We accept all major credit cards, including VISA, mastercard, and AMEX. All payments are in U.S. dollars using Stripe.
